Quick Hitter Preview: Blackhawks vs. Jets

Hawks vs. Jets – 12/13/18

The Blackhawks finally got back in the win column on Wednesday night, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 6-3. They’re back in action tonight when they host the Winnipeg Jets, who took the first meeting of the week with a 6-3 win on Tuesday night. Winnipeg will be fresh off an overtime win against the Oilers last night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM central time.

Three Things

  • The Blackhawks ended an 11-game streak of allowing the first goal with Martinsen’s deflection 14:14 into Wednesday night’s contest. It will be in the Hawks’ best interest to get on the board first as Winnipeg’s high-powered offense struck four times before Chicago found the back of the net on Tuesday night.
  • Defenseman Carl Dahlstrom played well in his first game since being recalled from Rockford on Wednesday, tallying an assist, 3 shots on goal, and 64.9% Corsi-for in 22:34 TOI. Look for Jeremy Colliton to lean on Dahlstrom even more now that Jan Rutta has been assigned to Rockford after clearing waivers.
  • Stay out of the box – the Jets power play is deadly. They lead the NHL in power-play conversion (30.4%) and are tied for second in power-play tallies with 31.

Laugh It Off

Tony and I were both at Wednesday night’s game, so obviously we’re good luck and need to attend every home game. One thing that stuck out to me was how much the Blackhawks push their “Believe In One Goal” slogan as part of the in-game experience. They flashed it on the ice while the zambonis made the rounds during intermission, so I had to turn it into a meme mocking the delusions of the organization.
