After opening 2019 with a loss to the Bruins in the Winter Classic, the Blackhawks are back in action tonight when they visit the New York Islanders. Tonight’s contest will be the first of two meetings between the teams this season, with the next coming on January 22nd in Chicago. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 PM central time.
- If the Hawks can push the pace in this game, they should have the advantage. The Islanders rank 29th overall in 5-on-5 shots attempted with 1,584, while the Blackhawks rank sixth overall (1,943).
- While the Hawks momentum was dampened a bit by the Winter Classic loss, the Islanders have been trending up as of late. They won their final four games of 2018, including a 3-1 victory at Buffalo on New Year’s Eve.
- The Blackhawks acquired Drake Caggiula from the Oilers in a trade just before the new year, but the 24-year old winger won’t make his Blackhawks debut just yet due to visa issues. The Hawks will roll with the same lineup that played against Boston on Tuesday.

Laugh It Off
In the trade that brought Drake Caggiula to the Blackhawks, Jason Garrison was also included. The veteran defenseman doesn’t fit into the current Hawks mix, so they waived him not long after acquiring him. To describe that string of transactions, there was a clip from South Park that included the name “Garrison” so I couldn’t let that opportunity slip away.
