Quick Hitter Preview: Blackhawks vs. Senators

Hawks vs. Senators – 2/18/19

Coming off a 5-2 Saturday loss to Columbus, the Blackhawks finish out their homestand tonight against the Ottawa Senators. The two teams last met on opening night, when the Hawks won 4-3 in overtime. The Hawks will be wearing their Winter Classic sweaters in this one. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM central time.

Three Things

  • The Blackhawks currently sit three points out of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They absolutely need to take care of a team that sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings tonight because points are at a premium at this point in the season.
  • While the Senators dwelling at the bottom of the standings, there are still some legitimate scoring threats who are auditioning for trades to contenders. Both Mark Stone (27 goals, 32 assists – 59 points) and Matt Duchene (27 goals, 29 assists – 56 points) will be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.
  • Patrick Kane extended his point streak to 17 games with a power-play goal in the first period on Saturday night. This guy is playing the best hockey of his career, but he probably won’t be seriously considered for the Hart Trophy if the Hawks don’t make the playoffs.

Laugh It Off

Canadian broadcaster Don Cherry ripped the Carolina Hurricanes for their postgame celebration in a true “old man yells at cloud” moment.

In response, the Canes embraced the criticism and made shirts about it. Gotta love it.
