Robbie Gould has refused his franchise tag with the San Francisco 49ers, in addition to skipping out on OTA’s and subsequently asking the team for a trade Tuesday morning.
Now I know what you’re all thinking, Ryan Pace has got to be on a phone call with John Lynch right now trying to bring home the missing piece to our third phase of the game. We all remember where we were last season when Cody Parkey ripped our hearts out as the infamous double doink booted us from the playoffs against the Philadelphia Eagles. The question now becomes, what will the 49ers want in return for Gould? I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that Gould may be more than welcome to taking a discount to come home and play for a competitor and the team he spent the bulk of his career with. We all know that he is our guy. We grew up watching him, we’ve won so many games with him, and he’s the Bears all-time leading scorer with 1207 points!
Obviously there are other voids to fill for the 2019 Chicago Bears, but one thing we must have is a solid kicking game. Special Teams matters in every game whether it’s flipping the field on a punt or crushing a game-winning kick to end the game. The Bears recently signed former AAF Orlando Apollo kicker Elliot Fry to compete with former Pitt Panther kicker Chris Blewitt in training camp for 2019. Let’s just do the right thing and give the people what they want, bring Robbie home!
