This is why we can’t have nice things…
On Thursday afternoon, the White Sox placed starter Carlos Rodon on the 10-day injured list with elbow inflammation.
One of the many things that needed to go right for the White Sox to potentially compete this year was to have a full, healthy season from starter Carlos Rodon. Now that will not happen.
Rodon’s career has been full of injuries. In fact, it was almost an unusual sight to see having having him break camp with the club to start the 2019 season. Not even 24 hours after White Sox manager Ricky Renteria told the media that Carlos has been dealing with a blister on his pitching hand comes the news of elbow inflammation.
At this point it, remains to be seen how long Rodon will be sidelined for, but this is yet another blow to a pitching staff that has seen Lucas Giolito (who is returning today) spend time on the IL and Ervin Santana DFA’d.
Who will fill the innings Rodon will leave behind? Whether Sox fans like it or not, the likely option for now is already on the roster in Dylan Covey, who has had some experience starting at the big league level. Other less likely options could include Carson Fulmer or a call up of Dylan Cease.
