All-Time Chicago Bears Roster
In honor of the NFL’s 100th season, what would an All-Century Chicago Bears team look like?
It’s officially the 100th season for the NFL. The Bears are one of two charter franchises. In all of these years, the team has 28 Hall of Famers, which is the most in the NFL. There are several more players that could be inducted into the Hall Of Fame as well. So, what would an “All-Century Team” look like?
QB: Sid Luckman/Jay Cutler
RB: Walter Payton/Red Grange/Matt Forte
FB: Bronko Nagurski
WR: Harlon Hall/Johnny Morris/Ken Kavanaugh/Curtis Conway/Dick Gordon/Brandon Marshall
TE: Mike Ditka/Greg Olsen/Desmond Clark
OT: Jimbo Covert/Ed Healey
OG: Mark Bortz/Kyle Long
C: Jay Hilgenberg/George Trafton
OG: Stan Jones/Tom Thayer
OT: Keith Van Horne/ Joe Stydahar
This offense would be able to run all over teams with one of the top running backs of all time behind what would be a stout offensive line. The passing game would be great to watch with some of the best tight ends to ever play the game. One area the Bears have lacked in over time is at wide receiver, but this group would be able to put up some good numbers as a core. How about the defensive side of the ball?
DE: Doug Atkins/Ed Sprinkle
DT: Dan Hampton/Link Lyman/William Perry
DT: Steve McMichael/George Musso
DE: Richard Dent/Ed O’Bradovich
LB: Bill George/Otis Wilson
LB: Dick Butkus/Wilbur Marshall
LB: Mike Singletary/Khalil Mack
LB: Brian Urlacher
CB: Charles Tillman/Leslie Frazier
CB: Donnell Woolford/Bennie McRae
S: Gary Fencik/Roosevelt Taylor
S: Richie Petitbon/Dave Duerson
So, this was a full 53 man roster. With all the talent that has come over the years on defense, a full team could be comprised of defensive talent alone. Even in the present day, you have talent still making waves. Current standouts that didn’t make this list include Kyle Fuller, Eddie Jackson, Akiem Hicks, and Roquan Smith. Who knows where those players will rank on a team like this a few years down the road.
Gould is one of the best kickers the Bears of all time, but a fan favorite comes to mind at punter. Brad Maynard was a great player to have around. Looking at the return game, opposing teams would never want to kick toward Hester or Sayers. One of those two guys could bring it back for a touchdown on any given kick. As for coaching, there is no better man to lead a team like this then Pappa Bear himself George Halas.
So, what would your All-Century Team look like?
