Fly High, Former Cub: Tommy La Stella
The former Cub is having an excellent year while getting regular playing time with the Angels, and we’re happy for him
Tommy La Stella may not have ever been the marquee name on the lips of Cubs fans, but he was always a solid contributor. The man, also known as 3 AM, was asked to be versatile and prepared to play whatever position Joe Maddon needed. With the exception of a little situation in 2016 (La Stella refused to report to the minors despite having options remaining), his time with the Cubs was successful.
Speaking of refusing to be sent down, maybe Tommy Boy was on to something there. He was traded to the Los Angeles Angels ahead of the 2019 season, and let’s just say an everyday role seems to be his sort of bag, baby. Take a look at his career stats before 2019 vs. just this young season:
As of today (5/15/19), he has played in 38 games and he has 11 home runs, which is more then he had in his entire career before this year. And you know what, good for him. Kick back, enjoy some Matchbox 20, and gear up for today’s matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and watch good ole 3 AM blast a tater against these same Reds.
