In the second round of the MLB Draft, the Chicago White Sox selected Matthew Thompson. Matthew is a right-handed pitcher out of Cypress Ranch High School in Texas.
Thompson is a 6’3, 184-pound pitcher with some promising upside. Thompson throws a nasty fastball already topping out at 96MPH. He has a 60-grade “Hammer Curve” out of a 20-80 scale. Multiple scouting reports I did research on have his changeup “lacking.” That’s obviously something that can be worked on.
Also, a little fun fact about Matthew is that he got reps at shortstop between starts. That’s pretty impressive and exemplifies his athletism.
With all the injuries that have taken place within the White Sox pitching prospects and starters, this pick makes sense. Matthew has a ton of athletism as another upside. Welcome to the South Side, Matthew!
