Before today’s game at Tampa Bay, the White Sox announced that reliever Kelvin Herrera is headed to the injured list.
Herrera put together a decent start to the season, posting a 2.76 ERA and five holds in his first 16 appearances. On Sunday, May 5th, he got roughed up in a disastrous eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox and exited the game with back stiffness. He did not head to the injured list after that game but probably should have because he has had an extremely rough go of it ever since, posting an 11.88 ERA and just one hold.
Jimmy Cordero will be taking Herrera’s place in the bullpen for the time being. Cordero last pitched in the big leagues earlier this season with the Toronto Blue Jays, but that was only for one game. He bounced to Seattle afterward, but was waived and then picked up by the White Sox in early June.
