On the Cubs off-day between games in San Francisco and Milwaukee, Ian Happ was called up from Triple-A Iowa ahead of Friday’s action.
Our very own Brian Mischler has been screaming from the rooftops (pun intended) to call Happ up from the minors. Hey, he even wrote an entire article about it being “Happ Time“.
The move isn’t terribly surprising, Happ has been great lately in Iowa and deserved a chance to play center field on the big league roster. Albert Almora‘s struggles are also well documented, opening the possibility, and probability, to Happ’s promotion.
This news comes just a day after Addison Russell was sent down to Triple-A. Not only does Happ provide depth in center field, he also gives them an option at second base with Russell’s demotion and Descalso’s struggles.
There will likely be a corresponding move to free up a spot on the active roster, so stay tuned with On Tap Sports Net for that update when it is available.
Welcome back, Ian! I think a lot of Cubs fans missed you!
