As announced late Monday night, Tim Anderson is finally returning from the injured list to join the White Sox for the series opener against the Mets. To make room for him on the roster, the White Sox have optioned outfielder Ryan Cordell to AAA Charlotte.
Cordell has been on the major league roster for most of the season, where he made an immediate impact in his first action by hitting a late-inning home run when called upon to pinch-hit in an April 1st game in Cleveland. Other than being a solid defensive replacement off the bench, things haven’t gone so well at the plate for Cordell over 69 games, hitting .234/.286/.354 with five home runs and 18 RBIs. He still has one minor league option left, so there is still a chance that he could receive the Adam Engel treatment and get called back to the majors if his AAA numbers are worthy.
In addition, the White Sox have also recalled Carson Fulmer from AAA Charlotte to fill the pitching void left by Dylan Covey being optioned after Sunday’s loss to the Twins.
