So, it looks like Jose Abreu went right to the Chicago White Sox owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, about staying in Chicago. It’s been no secret all year that Jose wants to be part of this South Side team for years to come.
The fact Jose went to the media with this cannot sit well with GM Rick Hahn. It seems like he may have gone over his head and used this promise as leverage. We all know here that Jerry is a loyal guy, sometimes to a fault. But Abreu has been a model of consistency since his White Sox career began in 2014.

If Jose wants to be here, why not keep him? Andrew Vaughn will not be ready by 2020 and Zack Collins has struggled during his stints with the big league club. Rick Hahn surely doesn’t want to see Jose walk for nothing.. right? I’m assuming that’s why he didn’t trade him before the deadline.
One thing is for sure, Jose says Jerry made a promise. By telling the media, it truly puts the ball in the White Sox playing field. If they don’t re-sign him after this, it makes the franchise look unloyal to its players and I’m sure the White Sox don’t want to do that considering they want to draw in effective MLB players.
