NEWS: INF David Bote Re-called – LHP Derek Holland to IL
News broke today that Derek Holland has been placed on the 10-day IL with a left wrist injury. In a subsequent move, the Cubs bring back David Bote in place of Holland.
This move is important since the Cubs have been operating with a short bench of late. With Anthony Rizzo‘s bad back acting up, and ultimately forcing his early departure in yesterday’s loss, a versatile player such as Bote is a luxury to have on the bench. He will likely see time at some point, but for today it will be Addison Russell at second base and Ian Happ at first base.
The Cubs won’t miss all that much without Holland. He has been a lefty-on-lefty-specialist, but has not brought much else to the table besides that.
The Cubs play their series finale against the Washington Nationals today at 1:20pm. The Cubs will be off tomorrow before traveling to New York to face the Mets for three games beginning on Tuesday.
