Anthony Rizzo must realize how serious this four-game series is against the division-leading Cardinals, as he’s back in the lineup tonight. Just four days removed from a scary-looking ankle injury, Rizzo was seen in uniform working out in front of the Cubs trainers at Wrigley Field. Less than 20 minutes later the Cubs, sent out a tweet with a Rizzo GIF to announce that he would be penciled into the lineup.
The new lineup was released shortly after with Rizzo atop the lineup, Zobrist moved down to fifth, and Victor Caratini on the bench.
In other big news before the Cardinals series, Javier Baez was cleared for “light baseball activity” according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. Rogers also added that “pinch-running is possible for him now.” The Cubs also activated closer Craig Kimbrel off the injured list. The pieces are back, and Rizzo is leading off. Its time to beat the Cardinals baby. Go Cubs.
