This afternoon, the Blackhawks made their 23-man 2019-20 opening night roster official.
On the injury front, Connor Murphy will begin this season on injured reserve due to a groin issue. He began last year on injured reserve due to a back injury. John Quenneville, who played in the first preseason game but has been sidelined since, will also be on injured reserve because of a hip injury. Kirby Dach, who has participated in practices but not games, will be on injured/non-roster designation. Dach was shaken up by a big hit in the final game of the Traverse City Prospect Tournament back in mid-September and has been in concussion protocol.
Also of note, Calvin de Haan will be in the mix on the Hawks blue line. He has been recovering from a shoulder procedure in May which put him on a 4-6 month recovery timetable. Most recently, he has been practicing while dealing with a groin injury. Hopefully, we see the offseason trade addition in action when the Blackhawks face off against the Flyers on Friday afternoon.
As speculated, Slater Koekkoek has locked up the “final” defensive spot on the roster after Carl Dahlstrom was claimed off waivers by the Jets earlier today.
