Per Scott Merkin, the Chicago White Sox are parting ways with hitting coach Todd Steverson and assistant hitting coach Greg Sparks after yet another subpar overall hitting season.
The Sox hired Steverson after the 2013 season. Since then, the team has finished 20th, 27th, 20th, 25th, 26th, and 23rd in OBP. This is awful in an era driven by walks and getting on base. Granted, he didn’t have the ideal personnel around him, and this might be a tad bit of scapegoating, but I agree it was time to part ways. If either of these guys were the reason for Tim Anderson‘s success along with Yoan Moncada‘s breakout then I would think differently. Let’s see who replaces them, but this is a shocking bit of news.
