Breaking news from Prague this morning confirms that the Blackhawks and winger Alex DeBrincat have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension that will run through the 2022-23 season.
DeBrincat’s average annual value (AAV) is $6.4 million per season. This contract is excellent for a player who has scored 40 goals in the NHL. DeBrincat has posted 69 goals in 164 career games and has recorded 128 total points in that time span. DeBrincat is proving to be the best value pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft after being a second-round pick (39th overall).
Blackhawks fans have to be incredibly excited about this contract. By DeBrincat taking less money, Chicago has a better chance of retaining players such as Robin Lehner and Dylan Strome, both of whom are in need of contracts after this season.
Blackhawks hockey is almost back, and now fans have some good news going into the season knowing DeBrincat is going to be a Blackhawk for at least four more seasons including this one.
