Dennis Gilbert Assigned to Rockford

After struggling in the season opener, Blackhawks defenseman Dennis Gilbert has been assigned to the Rockford IceHogs.

After a rough go of things in the season opener, defenseman Dennis Gilbert has been assigned to the Rockford IceHogs.

Gilbert was inserted into the lineup when it was announced that Calvin de Haan was scratched with a lingering groin injury. Skating in just his second career NHL game, Gilbert was baptized by fire on his very first shift. After a bad turnover on a breakout attempt, Travis Konecny collected the puck, drove up the wing, and buried a wrist shot to open the scoring in the game.

Dennis Gilbert recorded a -1 rating, 2 shots on goal, 4 hits, and 1 block in just 14:57 TOI. He and Slater Koekkoek struggled the most of any Blackhawks defensive pair by far. With Gilbert’s demotion and the next game being five days away, perhaps this means Calvin de Haan is finally ready to jump into game action.
