Breaking news per David Kaplan of NBC Sports Chicago is that David Ross has been named the new skipper of the Chicago Cubs.

Highly placed source has confirmed to me David Ross is expected to be named Cubs manager this week. His agent has been discussing contractual terms with Theo Epstein. Deal is almost done. More on @ESPN1000 at 9 am. On @NBCSChicago + https://t.co/VqUFW8rK8r throughout the day.

This move comes with quite a bit of controversy. It seems that half of the Cubs’ fanbase wanted Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada, and the other half wanted Ross.

Nonetheless, the Cubs’ front office must have liked what Ross was saying and bringing to the table more so than Espada. As fans, we would like to know why, and we may possibly find out in an introductory press conference.

UPDATE:

The news became official on Thursday morning when Ross and the Cubs agreed to a three-year deal with a club option for 2023.

It’s official, David Ross has signed a three-year deal with the Cubs with a team option for 2023. He’ll be introduced as the team’s new manager with a press conference on Monday.
