Farewell to the Voice of Soldier Field: Jim Riebandt set to Retire

The Soldier Field stadium experience will be without one of its most entertaining elements after this season.

“There’s a timeout.”

“On the field.”

News broke today that Chicago Bears public address announcer, Jim Riebandt, is set to retire at the end of 2019. Just keep kicking us while we’re down, why don’t you Bears.

His career started at DePaul University, where he served as the men’s basketball PA announcer. He came over to the Bears in 1979 and became the full-time stadium announcer in 1982. What a wonderful job to have for 38 years. He was there for the team’s highs and lowest of lows.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the public address announcer position next season and beyond. Hopefully, Riebandt had someone learning from him because it’s all about bringing energy and passion, which he excelled at.

The Bears will honor him during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs on December 22nd. I wish nothing but the best for Mr. Riebandt in whatever he plans to do next. Thank you, Jim, for all the wonderful memories at the stadium.
