Kirby Dach will Remain with Blackhawks for “Foreseeable Future”

Kirby Dach will not be heading back to the WHL Saskatoon Blades this season.

Kirby Dach is six games into his NHL career, which is 2/3 of the nine-game “tryout” period after which the Blackhawks would have had the option to send him back to the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL to avoid burning the first year of his entry-level contract. The Blackhawks universe has been buzzing with speculation of whether or not Dach would stick in the NHL immediately at just 18 years of age. This afternoon, Jeremy Colliton dispelled the possibility of him going back to juniors this season.

Dach has recorded just one goal and one assist over six contests, but that’s not surprising given his age and the lack of production across the board from all Hawks skaters. His vision and awareness have improved slightly from game one to game six, but there is obviously still a long way to go. The coaching staff understandably wants to see his development take place right in front of their eyes while also getting some production out of their third overall selection from the 2019 NHL Draft.
