According to The Athletic’s Pete Sampson, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly says running back Tony Jones Jr. is a game-time decision for this week’s matchup against Virginia Tech.
This is tough news for the Irish running back corps, which was finally 100% healthy going into the Michigan game. It will be interesting to see who steps up in the absence of Jones, who suffered an upper-body injury in the blowout loss. Expect the veteran running backs Jafar Armstrong, Jahmir Smith to carry the load. I also think is a huge opportunity for Avery Davis, someone I mentioned on the latest Irish On Tap episode, to get some carries. Since Notre Dame’s playoff hopes are gone, it should be time to see what some of the younger players have to offer.
