The Blackhawks have trimmed their roster from eight to seven defensemen by assigning Dennis Gilbert to the AHL Rockford IceHogs.
Gilbert was recalled on October 23rd as the corresponding move to Connor Murphy being placed on long term injured reserve. Since then, Gilbert has skated in two contests, with his last action coming on October 29th at Nashville. He recorded zero points and a minus-two rating in this short second stint with the Hawks.
With Adam Boqvist also being recalled during the time period Gilbert was back in Chicago, it was only a matter of time before the Blackhawks made a move to reduce their blue line to their preferred seven skaters. Having an opportunity to play every night at Rockford will bode much better for Gilbert’s development, as he was a healthy scratch for the last three games at the NHL level.
