The White Sox have claimed right-handed pitcher Tayron Guerrero from the Miami Marlins, who was designated for assignment earlier this week. Guerrero is a live arm, much like Thyago Vieira. He can throw about 100 MPH, as you can in the below graphic from BaseballSavant.com (StatCast).
Like Vieira, he also walks a ton of batters (43 Ks/ 36 BBs in 2019). That’s obviously not ideal, but in an era where home runs and velocity are emphasized, taking a flyer on a guy like Guerrero can work out for a team with a seasoned pitching coach, like Don Cooper. “Coop’ll fix ’em,” as they say. We’ll see about that actually coming to fruition, but this is a very low-risk move for the White Sox. Now, they just need to acquire a hurler with a more stable profile.
