Rumor: Marcell Ozuna to the White Sox?
Rumors swirling the White Sox may have interest in signing Marcell Ozuna as early as Monday.
According to Dominican Republic reporter Frank Castillo, “Marcell Ozuna travels to the US tomorrow, he will sign with the White Sox, and the agreement will be announced on Monday.”
With no track record of breaking MLB news, it is hard pressed to believe this rumor from Mr. Castillo. He may be correct, but for me, I’m going to take it with a grain of salt. Shortly after Frank Castillo’s tweet made its rounds through White Sox twitter, 670 The Score’s Bruce Levine checked in with his White Sox source.
Ozuna slashed .243/.330/.474 with 29 HRs and 89 RBIs with the Cardinals last season. Ozuna’s two All-Star seasons came in Miami in 2016, and 2017, when new White Sox hitting coach Frank Menechino was Miami’s hitting coach. His fielding is not anything to be super excited about, but he would be a major upgrade over what the White Sox had in right field last season. Ozuna has only played 6% of his playing time in right field during the course of his career, but like stated earlier, he would be a much needed upgrade from the revolving door in right field last season.
As the winter meetings start on Sunday, the White Sox are expected to be very active, especially in their search for an everyday right fielder. Marcell Ozuna and Nicholas Castellanos are the two top-end outfield free agents the White Sox will be looking at, along with some trade targets. It’s time to start winning, and that next step is adding from outside the organization. Hopefully that continues this week.
