NEWS: Boqvist, Highmore Re-called from AHL, Shaw to LTIR

News broke earlier today that the Blackhawks re-called defenseman Adam Boqvist and forward Matthew Highmore from AHL Rockford. These moves were made possible by the Blackhawks moving forward Andrew Shaw to the long-term injured reserve (LTIR) with lingering concussion issues.

The move certainly provides some needed depth and speed as the Blackhawks’ injuries continue to pile up. With Duncan Keith and Olli Maatta still out, inserting Boqvist could be a refreshing addition over the likes of Dennis Gilbert or Slater Koekkoek.

Highmore provides a similar injection of energy, especially after Alex Nylander was demoted from the top line and may find himself as a healthy scratch.

The Blackhawks held an optional practice today, in which both youngsters participated. The Blackhawks travel to the west coast to play the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, with games on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday as well.
