Going into the last week of the season, the biggest question is who will be the sixth seed in the AFC. With the Titans, Steelers, and even Raiders with a chance, week 17 will determine who will take that last spot. In the NFC East, the Eagles just need a win against the Giants to secure the division, and they have jumped into the top 15.
1. Baltimore Ravens 13-2
Last Week: 1
The Ravens have locked up home field advantage in the AFC and look to have all the pieces for a Super Bowl run. MVP Lamar Jackson and other starters will have a chance to rest the next two weeks before hosting a divisional game at home.
Week 17: vs PIT; Sunday 4:25pm ET
2. San Francisco 49ers 12-3
Last Week: 2
The 49ers have struggled the last few weeks, but they pulled out a huge victory on Saturday to put themselves in contention for the first seed in the NFC. The only thing in their way is a hostile environment on Sunday Night Football in Seattle.
Week 17: @ SEA; Sunday 8:20pm ET
3. New Orleans Saints 12-3
Last Week: 3
The Saints have the best wide receiver in football in Michael Thomas, who moved past Marvin Harrison for the NFL record for receptions in a season on Sunday. The Saints won a close one in Tennessee and kept their hopes alive for not only a bye but home field in the NFC.
Week 17: @ CAR; Sunday 1:00pm ET
4. Kansas City Chiefs 11-4
Last Week: 5
Kansas City is putting it together. Their defense has improved exponentially, and Patrick Mahomes looks as healthy as he has all season. I think they’re going to be playing in Miami in February.
Week 17: vs LAC; Sunday 1:00pm ET
5. New England Patriots 12-3
Last Week: 6
The Patriots won a tough battle against Buffalo on Saturday to take the AFC East for the ELEVENTH straight year. That’s nuts, even with the dreadfulness of the AFC East. The Patriots still have some offensive struggles going into the playoffs, but with a win over Miami next week, they can rest up with a bye.
Week 17: vs MIA; Sunday 1:00pm ET
6. Green Bay Packers 12-3
Last Week: 7
The Packers took the NFC North on Monday when they showed their dominance over the Vikings in Minnesota. They may have some question marks, but when you have Aaron Rodgers at QB, a Super Bowl run is never out of the question.
Week 17: @ DET; Sunday 1:00pm ET
7. Seattle Seahawks 11-4
Last Week: 4
The Seahawks lost a really bad game at home against the Cardinals and pretty much ended any chance they had of a bye in the playoffs. They can still win the division with a win on Sunday night and host at least one game.
Week 17: vs SF; Sunday 8:20pm ET
8. Minnesota Vikings 10-5
Last Week: 8
The Vikings were without their top two running backs and couldn’t get it done against Green Bay on Monday. With the loss, it pretty much locks the Vikings into the sixth seed as they await their opponent for the wild card playoff game.
Week 17: vs CHI; Sunday 1:00pm ET
9. Buffalo Bills 10-5
Last Week: 9
The Bills impressed in New England but came up short. As the Bills know they are the five seed and most likely headed to Houston, week 17 will be time to give some backups a chance and allow the coaching staff two weeks to game plan.
Week 17: vs NYJ; Sunday 1:00pm ET
10. Houston Texans 10-5
Last Week: 10
The Texans took the AFC South with a sloppy win in Tampa Bay. Barring a Chiefs loss, the Texans will be hosting Buffalo in two weeks, and if they played like they did Saturday, it’s going to be difficult to win.
Week 17: vs TEN; Sunday 4:25pm ET
11. Los Angeles Rams 8-7
Last Week: 11
The Rams were eliminated from playoff contention with a heartbreaking loss against the 49ers. A year after the Super Bowl run, the Rams will have some things to clean up this offseason if they want to get back to the top of a really difficult division.
Week 17: vs ARI; Sunday 4:25pm ET
12. Tennessee Titans 8-7
Last Week: 12
The Titans sat star running back Derrick Henry on Sunday, but they did it to keep him healthy for week 17. The way the scenarios played out, winning against the Saints was not as important winning in week 17 vs. Houston. With the Steelers loss to an AFC opponent in the New York Jets, the Titans took over the sixth seed even with a loss. With a win over an AFC opponent, the Texans, the Titans would hold a better conference record and be the sixth seed in the playoffs over the Steelers. They could still take the sixth seed with a loss, but they would need help.
Week 17: @ HOU; Sunday 4:25pm ET
13. Pittsburgh Steelers 8-7
Last Week: 13
The Steelers took their playoff hopes out of their control with a loss at the Jets. With the Titans leapfrogging them, they need to win and hope the Titans lose to Houston. The Ravens look to be sitting starters, which bodes well for Pittsburgh. Even with the Texans saying they’re playing to win, it seems likely with an early-game win for the Chiefs, they will change their minds and sit their starters.
Week 17: @ BAL; Sunday 4:25pm ET
14. Philadelphia Eagles 8-7
Last Week: 17
The Eagles have put themselves into a win-and-they’re-in scenario in week 17. If they can beat the Giants in New York, they will wrap up the NFC East and get to host a first-round playoff game. With injuries, it will be nearly impossible for Philadelphia to make a run, but you never know.
Week 17: @ NYG; Sunday 4:25pm ET
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-8
Last Week: 14
The Buccaneers almost overcame a five-turnover game to upset the Texans. Jameis Winston was once again a turnover machine, but that didn’t hinder him from keeping the game close. The Buccaneers will need to figure out how to decrease those turnover numbers with Winston if they want to see him succeed.
Week 17: vs ATL; Sunday 1:00pm ET
16. Chicago Bears 7-8
Last Week: 15
The Bears continued a rough season by getting embarrassed at home on national television. The Bears will have a long offseason to fix what ails the offense, because they cannot let one of the top defenses in football miss the postseason yet again next year. To put salt in Bears’ fans wound, Patrick Mahomes seemed to mock them for letting him fall to the tenth selection in the 2017 NFL draft.
Week 17: @ MIN; Sunday 1:00pm ET
17. Dallas Cowboys 7-8
Last Week: 16
Week 17: vs WSH; Sunday 4:25pm ET
The Cowboys followed up their best game of the season with a dreadful loss to a depleted Eagles team. The Cowboys need a win and Eagles loss to make the playoffs next week, which looks unlikely.
18. Indianapolis Colts 7-8
Last Week: 18
The Colts find themselves at 7-8 in a year where starting quarterback Andrew Luck retired. With their playoff hopes dead, the Colts will look to the offseason to improve at quarterback and get their team healthy again.
Week 17: @ JAX; Sunday 4:25pm ET
19. Atlanta Falcons 6-9
Last Week: 19
The Falcons rattled off another win on Sunday, giving them five wins in their last seven tries. I liked them to make the playoffs at the start of the year, but things did not go well. I think they’re a playoff team in 2020 and will use a high draft pick to get better.
Week 17: @ TB; Sunday 1:00pm ET
20. Oakland Raiders 7-8
Last Week: 20
The Raiders still have a shot. They need a Titans loss, Steelers loss, Colts loss, and a win of their own to get in the playoffs. That’s a lengthy checklist, but you never know. Nonetheless, the Raiders have disappointed after a good start to 2019. As the move to Las Vegas in 2020, will they gamble on Derek Carr as their starting QB?
Week 17: @ DEN; Sunday 4:25pm ET
21. Denver Broncos 6-9
Last Week: 21
Drew Lock improved to 2-1 as starter and looks to have the 2020 starting job locked down. With some more additions, the Broncos could make noise in 2020.
Week 17: vs OAK; Sunday 4:25pm ET
22. New York Jets 6-9
Last Week: 27
The Jets had an impressive win against the Steelers on Sunday and played spoiler. Adam Gase may not be the guy at head coach, but Sam Darnold looks like a franchise quarterback heading into his third year.
Week 17: @ BUF; Sunday 1:00pm ET
23. Arizona Cardinals 5-9-1
Last Week: 24
The Cardinals stunned the Seahawks in Seattle, as running back Kenyan Drake was impressive yet again. The Cardinals have a nice core headed into year two with Kyler Murray and will only improve in 2020.
Week 17: @ LAR; Sunday 4:25pm ET
24. Cleveland Browns 6-9
Last Week: 22
The Browns have had a rough 2019. A lot needs to be done in the offseason if the Browns will contend in 2020. All of the preseason media hype was for naught, but I think 2020 could be much better if proper improvements are made.
Week 17: @ CIN; Sunday 1:00pm ET
25. Los Angeles Chargers 5-10
Last Week: 23
The Chargers played their final home game before moving to their brand new stadium in Los Angeles shared with the Rams. They’ll be starting a brand new quarterback in that stadium as Philip Rivers’ time in a Charger uniform looks to be ending. With some pieces on offense and defense to build around, a new QB could put a jolt into this franchise.
Week 17: @ KC; Sunday 1:00pm ET
26. Carolina Panthers 5-10
Last Week: 25
The Panthers would be smart to keep Cam Newton for 2020. With everyone writing him off for Kyle Allen and Will Grier, both of those QBs have not been impressive. If they want a shot in 2020, Cam is their best option.
Week 17: vs NO; Sunday 1:00pm ET
27. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-10
Last Week: 26
The Jaguars continued a disappointing season with another loss. In the offseason, they will have to determine if Nick Foles or Garner Minishew is their starting QB heading into 2020. Foles would be my pick, as Minishew mania has run its course.
Week 17: vs IND; Sunday 4:25pm ET
28. Miami Dolphins 4-11
Last Week: 31
The Dolphins took home another win on Sunday. They’ve hurt their draft position, but they just wanted to improve and that is what they have done. Ryan Fitzpatrick could be the starter next season and be a mentor for whichever QB Miami takes in the draft.
Week 17: @ NE; Sunday 1:00pm ET
29. New York Giants 4-11
Last Week: 29
The Giants won on Sunday, but it really felt like a loss. The Redskins jumped the Giants for the second overall pick and barring a miracle, Chase Young looks to be headed to Washington.
Week 17: vs PHI; Sunday 4:25pm ET
30. Washington Redskins 3-12
Last Week: 30
The Redskins jumped into the number two draft spot, and with a loss on Sunday, they could have their eyes set on Chase Young. Young could help solidify a defense that needs an identity. On offense, Dwayne Haskins has improved all year and should start 2020 with a much better team around him.
Week 17: @ DAL; Sunday 4:25pm ET
31. Detroit Lions 3-11-1
Last Week: 28
The Lions without Matthew Stafford are really bad. Neither of the backup QBs have done anything, so the Lions will look to a top-three draft pick next April. With Stafford healthy in 2020 and some new pieces in Detroit, the Lions could be a lot better.
Week 17: vs GB; Sunday 1:00pm ET
32. Cincinnati Bengals 1-14
Last Week: 32
The Bengals locked up the number one pick with which they will select their new franchise QB. Joe Burrow will have the pressure of turning around the Bengals, but with some solid players on offense, it’ll be interesting if they let him sit behind a veteran or if he’ll be ready to go week one.
Week 17: vs CLE; Sunday 1:00pm ET
