For the first time since December of 2014, the Illini are ranked in the AP poll, slotting in at #24 this week.

Even though the modern emphasis on analytics show that these rankings do not matter all that much (NET rankings, KenPom, etc.), this move into the polls shows they are back on the map where they should be.

Additionally, the Illini rank #20 for Seth Davis’ Athletic rankings, #27 on KenPom, #33 on NET, and #25 in the AND 1 rankings.

This team is not a joke. They are a competitor that could make some noise come March. Brad Underwood has helped with that. Who knows, if the Illini didn’t blow the Miami and Maryland games, they’d be far higher in all of these rankings. The team will be back in action next Saturday when they host Northwestern.
