Saad has been sidelined for 12 games due to an ankle injury he sustained during a contest against the Winnipeg Jets on December 19th. His return to the lineup will be warmly welcomed, as he has been one of the Blackhawks’ best possession players at 6.1 relative Corsi-for percentage. He will replace Dylan Sikura in the lineup and Corey Crawford will start in net.
Injuries have plagued the Blackhawks all season, but reinforcements are finally starting to arrive. Yes, Dylan Strome and Andrew Shaw are still on injured reserve, but Drake Caggiula has been effective in his four games since returning to action and Saad will only bolster the forward corps further.
