Alan Griffin Suspended 2 Games

The Big Ten has announced that they are suspending Illini guard Alan Griffin for two games.

The Big Ten has announced that they are suspending Illini guard Alan Griffin for two games after stepping on Sasha Stefanovic after the two collided on Tuesday night, per Bret Beherns of WCIA3 in Champaign, Illinois.

Here’s the play where the incident occurred.

I have a tendency to think that the rules surrounding Flagrant 2’s in college basketball are arbitrary and inconsistent, like targeting in college football. Needless to say, this was an overreaction from a collision and Griffin and the Illini will pay for his reaction in their upcoming games at Michigan and at home against Minnesota.

Unfortunately, the Illini have to just deal with it after one of their most impressive wins of the season, a 79-62 rout of Purdue on Tuesday night. They’ll have their hands full in Ann Arbor Saturday.
