The On Tap Crew’s Picks to Win: The Super Bowl

On Tap Sports Net writers give their predictions for the big game.

The big game is almost upon us, and we at On Tap Sports Net have been waiting all season for the ultimate showdown. This year was a major letdown for our (or at least most of us) beloved Chicago Bears, and while many of us thought the Bears could have been in this position, there is no denying the talent showcase we’re about to witness on Sunday, February 2nd will be a dandy.

The AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs will meet the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, and not having a Chicago-style hot dog in this fight, I’m expecting a very diverse selection from my fellow On Tap Sports Net contributors.

So without further ado, let us find out!

Who do you want to win and why?

Chiefs – Andy Reid deserves a title. He is one of the greatest coaches of our generation, but he gets overshadowed simply because he does not have a ring. Imagine him at the parade in a Hawaiian shirt, how can you not root for that guy?

Who do you think will win and why?

I think the Chiefs will win 35-28 simply because Patrick Mahomes is an unstoppable force that can make anything happen at any moment.

Who do you want to win and why?

Honestly, this question is really about picking the lesser of two evils. If the Chiefs win, you can expect the media to revisit the unbearable Patrick Mahomes and Mitchell Trubisky draft narrative again. As for the 49ers, Richard Sherman has done a great job as a one-sided cornerback, resulting in many putting him on a pedestal alongside the all-time greatest to play the position. I disagree with that notion. A title would most certainly have him running his mouth.

Regardless, I would like to see the Chiefs win. Andy Reid has had a great career with the Eagles and Chiefs, and he is one of my all-time favorite coaches. His “disciple” offensive coordinators always seem to find head-coaching jobs with ease, and that speaks volumes for the respect he garners around the league.

Who do you think will win and why?

Ultimately, I have always believed that defense wins championships. Perhaps that has evolved with the “bend but don’t break” mentality movement that has engulfed the NFL. However, over the last five Super Bowls, four have been determined by a defensive stop/turnover or an overall great defensive performance (last year). With a standout defensive front solidified by DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead, Dee Ford, and rookie Joey Bosa, I expect the 49ers to take the title 31-24.

The keys to victory are:

  1. Keeping the pressure on Mahomes (especially interior).
  2. Make sure physical linebackers Fred Warner and Kwon Alexander are consistently harassing Travis Kelce.
  3. Keep your safeties deep to limit the big play.
  4. What may hurt them is their short-pass offense. This team has one of the lowest YPT percentages in the NFL. However, their physical receivers such as Deebo Samuel thrive on YAC, a category in which they rank best in the NFL. That it is what their offense relies on. If the Chiefs take away the short-yardage plays and force Jimmy Garoppolo to throw deep, it could very well be their kryptonite.

Who do you want to win and why?

The Chiefs – There is one thing and one thing only that I want to see after this Super Bowl, and that is Andy Reid hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. This Chiefs team is a lot of fun to watch and Reid is the ultimate “regular dude.” Seeing Robbie Gould get a ring would be a nice consolation, however.

Who do you think will win and why?

The Chiefs, 33-27. Everything in this game seems to point to San Francisco winning. Their offensive line is phenomenal. They run the ball with ease, which is nice to see in today’s NFL. Their defensive line is dominant. These teams typically win. However, Patrick Mahomes is the ultimate game-breaker, and on football’s biggest stage, that is just what he’ll do.

Who do you want to win and why?

I’d like the Chiefs to take it. Setting aside the fact the Bears didn’t draft Mahomes, Andy Reid deserves it. He’s been a great coach for a couple decades, and his ability to pull off Tommy Bahama shorts in the winter is unmatched.

Who do you think will win and why?

49ers 31-24. They’re just so damn physical. Jimmy G is underrated and will make the hard throws if he has to.

Who do you want to win and why?

I would like to see the Chiefs win. Andy Reid has been an elite coach in the NFL for a long time but has no Super Bowl rings to show for it. If he can pull off this Super Bowl title, it would cement Reid as a Hall-of-Fame coach.

Who you think will win and why?

I think the Chiefs pull off a close one: 38-33. Even with the pressure the 49ers will be able to put on Mahomes, he’ll still be able to move the ball up and down the field. It’ll be a high scoring shootout, and the 49ers, like the Titans in the AFC Championship, will have to abandon the run. The 49ers have shown they can win in a shootout, but I’d put my money on Mahomes and the Chiefs if the game becomes just that.

Who do you want to win and why?

The 49ers will win because Jimmy G is just so darn cute. I apologize for that, my wife got a hold of my keyboard. I want the Niners to win mainly because of my Aunt. She’s lived in the Bay area for decades longer than I can remember, and she has been a Niners fan ever since. Also, I like Tevin Coleman a lot. He’s a local guy who played for the same youth team that my nephew played for at that age: The Mid-Crest Panthers. Now, I don’t know if Coleman will be suiting up for this game after that nasty fall he took in the NFC Championship. But if he does play, I’ll be pulling for him, albeit in a limited snap count.

Who do you think will win and why?

The Chiefs have this one: 35-28. Their offense is way too explosive even for that stud-riddled San Francisco defensive line. I think Kansas City scores early making it impossible for the 49ers to utilize that incredible run game and offensive line. We know for a fact that Kansas City can come back from a 24-point deficit, but can the Niners do it too? I’m not convinced that they can.

Who do you want to win and why?

Chiefs – I want to see Andy Reid get his first Super Bowl. Also, I want to see the Bears organization get more shit for making the wrong decision time and time again.

Who do you think will win?

The Chiefs, 38-24!

Who do you want to win and why?

I don’t care, I just want points so I can hit the over. Mahomes is cool and Jimmy G kind of annoys me. That’s about it, but I also like Richard Sherman.

Who do you think will win and why?

49ers, 31-24. I think the Chiefs run defense will finally meet their match and Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman will run it down their throats.

Who do you want to win and why?

KC- Simply because the offense is crazy and Andy Reid deserves a Super Bowl win.

Who do you think will win and why?

49ers, 24-21. They take the win by controlling the field and time of possession. The defense will be able to slow down the high-powered Chiefs offense a little bit as well.
