Look, I know some Twitter profiles can fool people, but man, could this be true? Could the Chicago Bulls be in on D’Angelo Russell? Both teams are struggling mightily and could use a shakeup. But, how does this trade go down? It’s been reported the Warriors want a first-round pick for Russell. With the Chicago Bulls sure to be in the lottery again, they could be an enticing option.
Hypothetically, if the Bulls were to offer Otto Porter Jr., Daniel Gafford/Luke Kornet, and their 2020 first-round pick for DLo, Glen Robinson III, and a second-round pick, that could get a deal done.
The Warriors make out pretty good here, of course. They get another first-round pick, a young and possible upcoming big in Daniel Gafford, or a sharp-shooting big in Luke Kornet, and an effective three-and-D wing in Otto Porter Jr. (when healthy). Assuming Otto Porter opts into his 2021 player option worth $28,489,239, his contract comes off the books when Giannis Antetokounmpo hits free agency. Pairing the “Greek Freak” with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson? Yikes.
The Bulls wouldn’t make out horribly here either. DLo would be reunited with Chris Fleming, who saw major success in Brooklyn. DLo, Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen, and Wendell Carter Jr. has pretty good potential to be an exciting lineup. It brings stability at the point guard position and it also adds another person to the lineup who can create his own shot.
I want to reiterate that I have no idea if this is true. I just started speculating on my own after seeing the tweet. It’s something that has the potential to help both teams, and I figured why not?
