The second wave of roster cuts this spring has come today, as the White Sox announced 11 moves.

Here’s the official press release by the club outlining today’s roster cuts from the major league camp.

The most surprising of the bunch is probably reliever Zack Burdi being optioned to Double-A Birmingham to begin the 2020 season. Burdi tossed four scoreless innings this spring, allowing just one hit while striking out four, and walking just one opposing hitter on 26 pitches.

While I figured that burdi wouldn’t make the Opening Day, roster given his injuries over the past couple of years, I did expect him to start in Triple-A Charlotte. Either way, in my estimation, Burdi will be a part of the major league bullpen at some point — and for most of — this season.

The current major league roster stands at 49, with just 11 Cactus League games — and two exhibitions with the Diamondbacks at Chase Field — remaining before Opening Day.
