Let me start by giving a little background information on my beer habits. I looooove beer. I would drink it every day if I could. I would bathe in it if it was socially acceptable. I’ve sampled easily over 1,000 different beers. My favorite beers are IPAs. I would say 85% of the beers of drink are IPAs. I love them super hoppy and strong, but I also love a sweet finish. Keep that in mind as you read my reviews.
Another thing moving forward with my reviews will be the cost. If a beer is over $10 for a four-pack of those 16 ouncers, it better be good. I don’t like spending extra on beer that tastes just like any other beer I’ve had. $10 for a six-pack is my average starting point. If it is about $11 or $12, I’m like, okay, this better be solid. If it’s getting up to $15, especially for these four-packs, it better blow my nuts off.
My very first review is on Founders Unraveled IPA. It is described as a Juicy India Pale Ale with a 6.6% ABV and 50 IBUs, and the ones I sampled were packaged on 2/11/20. This was the first time I saw this beer anywhere. I found it at Binny’s and it was $9.99 for a six-pack, so pretty standard on the cost front.
I grabbed this beer as soon as I saw it because Founders has one of my favorite and go-to beers, “Centennial.” If you’ve never had Centennial, you need to. It’s your classic, straight-forward hoppy IPA with a 7.2% ABV, and you can usually find it for about $15 in a 15-pack, which is a great deal for a very good beer.
The Unraveled IPA is a solid overall IPA. The color was a beautiful golden hue. It had a nice 1” of pure white head that dissipates to a slight bit of lacing on the side of the glass. The balance with this beer is fantastic. I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as a “juicy” IPA, but I can certainly taste it slightly on the back end. It’s bitter on the front but wet on the finish. I’m not sure I would agree with the 50 IBU’s described on the can, but I am used to some very hoppy beers.

In conclusion, I could easily slam a six-pack of these in no time at all. In fact, I drank all six today. I will try to give beers a rating based on a 10 scale. I would give Founders Unraveled IPA a 7.2 out of 10, as it’s a beer that I am sure most will enjoy. Again, I am very snobby with my beers, so to get anything above an 8 is going to have to be crazy good. So, when you see those high ratings, you better get your ass out there and grab it.
Happy drinking out there.
