Bears QB Rumors are Swirling, But For Now, Mitch is Still Chicago’s Quarterback
The Bears have been mentioned in several rumors regarding the quarterback position, but it’s most likely all smoke and mirrors.
This is getting out of control. The Bears are ‘officially’ in the market for every quarterback and their mother. Teddy Bridgewater was the first big rumor to emerge, but it seems like that hype is already over.
Now, this one gained a lot of steam. It started with a random radio host and trickled down all the way to Brad Biggs. That’s when things start getting real, but one rule I always follow is, if it’s not reported by Ian Rapoport or Adam Schefter, then don’t believe it. Even still, this one made me sweat a little. I would rather have Derek Carr than Teddy Bridgewater and I don’t think Carr is the answer. Bridgewater for over $15 million would use up most of the Bears’ remaining cap and they wouldn’t have the flexibility to do much more to improve the roster. In 2019, we found out that they aren’t an average quarterback away from a Super Bowl. It got real though, look at Teddy Bridgewater’s Wikipedia page.
Derek Carr has also been heavily rumored and it looks like that could still be a possibility, but the Tom Brady domino still has to fall. In all honesty, it doesn’t make much sense for the Raiders to move on from Carr in lieu of a rookie QB. John Gruden has a track record for older veteran quarterbacks, and it doesn’t look like Tom Brady is going to Vegas.
NFL Network just announced that the Bears are more in the market for a backup, which aligns with Pace’s previous statements about Mitch being the starter. They think they’re in play for Nick Foles or Andy Dalton. This also makes a lot more sense. To me, Bridgewater’s cost versus proven track record never made him a realistic option.
One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of Chicago media wants Trubisky out, and so does Michael Lombardi. Lombardi has hated Trubisky since he was drafted and has compared him to a bargain bin type of department store. Keep calm and wait for one of the big dogs to tweet something out. The Bears might not do anything sexy at quarterback in free agency whatsoever.
