The Cubs are sending Jhonny Pereda to the Red Sox to complete a trade from Jan 21, 2020.

Today, the Red Sox announced that they acquired Cubs minor league catcher Jhonny Pereda as the player to be named later in a trade from January for pitcher Travis Larkins. You remember Travis Lakins, yeah? Kudos if you do, he was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on January 31st, just ten days after being acquired in the trade.

Pereda didn’t have a stellar year for the AA Tennessee Smokies, but it stings to have to give up an asset when the guy you acquired is already wearing another uniform. I guess that helps the luxury tax situation? Is the luxury tax even a situation anymore with a suspended season if and when it does resume?
