Alan Griffin Transferring From Illinois

The Illini lose a stud to the transfer portal.

After a breakout sophomore season, Alan Griffin is entering the transfer portal, per his Instagram.

Griffin averaged 8.9 points, 4.5 boards, and 0.8 assists this past year. Unfortunately, this is tough news for the Illini after a promising season cut short by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Griffin would be competing for a spot on a loaded back-court with Adam Miller and Andre Curbelo joining the 2020-21 team.

One wonders if this could also mean that Ayo Dosunmu has a chance of returning for his junior season, considering most draft boards have him in the second round of NBA draft projections. Either way, this is a shocking move and after hearing rumors of a possible transfer coming to the Illini, it’s understandable.

Not that shocking really. As talented as Alan is, word has it he has problems taking direction, in this case from the Coach. I think Coach Underwood gives his players more than enough freedom, but that didn’t seem to be enough for Alan.
Hopefully, he will find a place that is a better fit for him.
