Today was supposed to be MLB’s Opening Day, and the White Sox were slated to host the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field. Instead, there will be no baseball due to ongoing coronavirus concerns.
There is a little bit of news on the White Sox front, however, as the club has optioned Michael Kopech to Triple-A Charlotte.
Kopech, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, pitched in just one Spring Training contest before the suspension of games. He turned in a scoreless outing and saw the Camelback Ranch radar gun spike up to 100-plus MPH on a couple of occasions.
With no timeline regarding the return of baseball, this move is one of the paper variety for the time being. If the season ends up featuring an abbreviated schedule, one would hope that Kopech will make his debut early on because the White Sox will need to be full-go from the jump if they want to compete in 2020.
