Jamall Walker has left the Fighting Illini basketball program for Grand Canyon University, where he will serve as an assistant coach.
Walker served as an assistant coach under the John Groce regime and stuck around when Brad Underwood took over. He was critical in keeping the team together through that coaching change as well as recruiting multiple local players for the Illini.
The news of Walker leaving comes after both Tevian Jones and Alan Griffin announced that they will be entering the transfer portal over the last two weeks. Perhaps the Illini will see a decision coming soon from their star player, Ayo Dosunmu, regarding his future basketball endeavors. If Dosunmu returns to Illinois, the Illini look like a team primed to win the Big Ten.
