Irish On Tap 2020 NFL Draft Preview: Khalid Kareem
Khalid Kareem will likely be selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Khalid Kareem, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive end out of Notre Dame, has entered the NFL Draft. While in South Bend, Kareem was an unstoppable force on the edge. His numbers alone demonstrate his worth on the field. Over his tenure with the Irish, he competed in 37 games and accumulated 108 tackles (26 for loss) and 13 sacks.
Kareem refused to let an injury shorten his collegiate career, and due to that negligence, he was not able to participate in the NFL Combine. Doctors operated on his torn labrum in late January. Kareem was ready to participate in the Pro Day workout on April 1st. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, his father helped him put together a one-man tape showing Kareem’s explosiveness, speed, and health.
Of all the strengths Kareem possesses, he is still human and has weaknesses. Nagging injuries are atop the list, and it seemed as though Kareem didn’t play at his 100% potential all the time. Taking all of those factors into consideration, draft projections have him going somewhere in the early fifth round. The former Notre Dame captain will make an NFL roster, however, he likely won’t be starting defensive end. Kareem can be a force on special teams while he continues working toward becoming a starting edge rusher for an NFL team.
