According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have cut tight end Trey Burton.

Burton spent two years in Chicago, catching six touchdowns in 2018 before missing the wild card game due to a groin injury. He didn’t return to form in 2019 and recorded just 14 receptions for 84 yards without finding the back of the end zone.

Burton carries a dead cap of $7.5 million and his contract was worth $8.5 million, so the Bears end up saving a million dollars with this release.

With a crowded tight end room, a move to clear up space was likely to happen. The additions of Jimmy Graham and Demetrius Harris essentially put the writing on the wall regarding the end Burton’s time in Chicago, and now it’s official.
