Ryan Pace Pushing off Mitchell Trubisky’s 5th Year Option Until the Bitter End

Ryan Pace once again bypassed a question regarding Mitchell Trubisky’s fifth-year option. Could the Bears be targeting a QB in the second round?

Ryan Pace has been asked if he will sign Mitchell Trubisky‘s fifth-year option at every single press conference this offseason, and he still continues to push off answering the question. There was one moment earlier in the offseason where he did say they plan on signing it, but for the most part, Pace has kept the information ‘close to the vest,’ like he’s known to do.

Today was no different. When Ryan Pace was asked whether or not he was committing to Trubisky’s option, he ‘bypassed’ the question and said they’re focused on the draft. Pace also informed everyone that the technology is in place for a virtual draft, and he has a phone ready with every GM on speed dial. A lot of fans are taking this very literally, and think he only has one phone to make calls on draft day, but my assumption is Pace is taking a page out of Kevin Gate’s book and has “2 Phones.”

Ryan Pace also seemed open to the idea of drafting a quarterback in the second round.

Time and time again Ryan Pace has preached a ‘best player available (BPA)’ drafting method, and it applies to every position. Now I’m not a detective, but I’m a firm believer that 2+2=4, and it looks like Pace may be targeting a quarterback in the second round. This is why he is holding off on signing Mitchell Trubisky’s fifth-year option. They don’t have a chance to get one of the top 3-4 quarterbacks, but they could have eyes on Jalen Hurts or Jake Fromm.
