Though nothing is official regarding the return of hockey, the NHL has been in talks about continuing the 2019-20 season starting in July. The games would be played at only a few NHL arenas with little to no fans.
Arizona is one of the NHL franchises that has reportedly offered to serve as a host for games.
Continuing the season has had mixed reactions throughout the hockey world. Even some current players have expressed their opinions, including the ever-outspoken Drew Doughty.
What About the Draft?
The 2020 NHL Draft was originally scheduled to take place June 26-27 in Montreal but was also postponed along with the season.
The big question now is whether or not to hold the draft before or after the end of the 2019-20 season.
In an article published on April 21, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported,
“The league proposed to teams the idea of going forward with the draft in June.”Elliotte Friedman / Sportsnet
At this point, there are more questions than answers, but the status of the season and draft is at the forefront of discussions around the league. As fans, along with the rest of the world, all we can do is wait.
