Bears Trade Up to Select OLB Trevis Gipson with 5th Round Pick
Chicago traded up to select the Tulsa OLB with the 155th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
After trading their 2021 fourth-round pick in exchange for the Vikings’ 2020 fifth-round pick (pick 155), the Bears have selected Tulsa OLB Trevis Gipson.
Over his four seasons at Tulsa, Gipson racked up 114 total tackles (63 solo), 13 sacks, and eight forced fumbles along with 25.5 TFL’s. His 2019 stat line was impressive, with 49 tackles (25 solo), eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and 15 tackles for loss.
Gipson, a star at Tulsa, played out of position a bit throughout his career with the Golden Hurricane. He will likely see more time at linebacker than as an edge rusher, which he primarily played in college. Regardless, Gipson excelled as a pass rusher and can be used at either position.
Gipson was originally projected higher than a fifth-round pick, so hopefully this proves to be a late-round steal for Chicago. With Ryan Pace’s excellent draft history of selecting late-round defensive talent (Eddie Jackson, Adrian Amos), Bears fans should be excited about this pick.
