Last night, it was announced that the Chicago Bulls have hired Philadelphia 76ers Assistant General Manager Marc Eversley to be their new General Manager. Interviews have been conducted over the last two weeks, and it seems that Mr. Eversley beat all other candidates to be awarded the job.
Eversley has been in the league since 2006, getting his start with the Toronto Raptors as a Player Development Assistant.
A fun fact about Eversley is that he was an employee of Nike for about a decade. He began as a retail store manager and eventually was promoted to point person for the company’s basketball player relationship division. That truly shows drive and ambition. He went from working for Nike in retail to then working in the NBA.
He has an eye for talent, as it’s been reported he was the person that saw talent in DeMar DeRozan. He also had his eyes on Damian Lillard as a force in this league. The basketball mind is there, and it seems he will be a good fit next to Artūras Karnišovas in the reshaping of the Bulls front office.
One last fun fact about Eversley is that he is the first African-American GM in Chicago Bulls’ history. He joins a storied franchise as the new face that runs the place, and Bulls fans everywhere have to be excited about the new direction taking place here.
With his experience in the league and with player relationships, this could finally be the move that blasts the Chicago Bulls up the ranks into an elite destination for players. Only time will tell, but everyone in the organization, fans of the team, and players on the outside looking in have to notice the significant improvements that have been made to the front office.
