It’s been reported that the Chicago Bears have signed Ted Ginn Jr. to a one-year deal.

Ian Rapoport’s tweet elaborates on the speed Ginn brings to the Bears, but let’s not pretend he’s hitting the same gears he was in 2007. Ginn will add speed, but more importantly, he brings a veteran presence that the Bears’ receiver room desperately needs. Outside of Allen Robinson, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Ted Ginn Jr., every receiver on the Bears is still on their rookie contract.

Ted Ginn is essentially replacing Taylor Gabriel, and unlike Gabriel, Ginn has had a fairly healthy past, only missing significant time in one of his 13 NFL seasons. Last year, Ted Ginn played all 16 games (started nine) and recorded 30 receptions, 421 yards, and two touchdowns for the Saints.

Ryan Pace signing former Saints and former NFC South players has been a trend since he got to Chicago in 2015. You always go back to your roots, and that’s what Pace has done with the signing of Ted Ginn Jr. His veteran presence should be most appreciated by newly drafted speedster Darnell Mooney, who can learn a lot from the savvy veteran.
