Javy Being Javy: Baez Helps Feed Families in Puerto Rico

Cubs shortstop Javier Baez creates magic off the field.

Cubs shortstop Javier Baez and Minnesota Twins pitcher Jose Berrios joined together to help feed over 500 kids in Puerto Rico this past Saturday.

Not only did the children get warm meals, but they also received bags full of hand sanitizer and face masks.

Berrios, Javy’s brother-in-law, teamed up with Baez and a restaurant known as Taquiza to provide bags filled with a warm meal consisting of pasta with chicken, a water bottle, a soda and juices for children in their native Puerto Rico.

No worries for those afraid of contact due to COVID-19. Baez and his wife, Irmarie, along with Berrios had families drive up to the front of the restaurant – located in Toa Baja – where someone would place the bag in their trunk of the car to ensure it was a no-contact delivery.

Baez and Berrios planned this event in about a week and said they’d do it again if given more time to prepare.

Baseball fans all around should feel proud to have guys like Baez and Berrios around to represent the game and MLB.

Baez is not only the magician on the field, but off the field.
