NIU’s Matt Lorbeck Enters Transfer Portal

Matt Lorbeck becomes the tenth NIU football player to enter the transfer portal.

After Mitchell Brinkman and CJ Perez announced their new schools this week, Northern Illinois defensive end Matt Lorbeck announced on Twitter today that he will enter the transfer portal. Lorbeck is now NIU’s tenth transfer this offseason, according to 247sports.com

In three seasons, Lorbeck recorded 62 tackles and four forced fumbles. Two of those forced fumbles were in his final game as a Huskie against Western Michigan.

NIU will now have to replace both edge rushers with Jack Heflin also announcing that he will transfer out of NIU.

Four former Huskies have already found new homes for next season:

  • TE Mitchell Brinkman – University of South Florida
  • OL CJ Perez – Temple (Former HC Rod Carey is the current HC)
  • DB Devin Haney – Grand Valley State
  • RB Tre Harbison – University of Charlotte
