A rundown of WWE Friday Night Smackdown on 5/29/20.

Tonight’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown kicks off with a “crime scene.” Elias was the victim of a hit-and-run car accident. Jeff Hardy, the accused, is put in handcuffs and is hauled off to a different part of the studio, I mean prison. What a way to start off this soap opera, I mean wrestling program.

Now for the wrestling. The show kicks off with a ten-man battle royal. Hardy’s Intercontinental Championship tournament slot is now vacated and someone has to face Daniel Bryan tonight. The match includes superstars such as Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro, King Corbin, Jey Uso, Drew Gulak, Sheamus, Shinsuke Nakamura, and more. King Corbin, both members of Lucha House Party, and Ziggler are already all eliminated. Sheamus is victorious after outlasting nine other superstars and eliminating Jey Uso, the first runner-up.

The second match of the night is a single bout between “The Sassy Southern Belle” Lacey Evans and Sonya Deville. Deville, who has been feuding with Mandy Rose, obviously has moved on and started a Twitter war with Evans, resulting in the match tonight. The match resulted in a double count-out after too much spent time brawling ringside.

A Moment Of Bliss, Alexa Bliss’s talk show, follows up the match. Her and Nikki Cross, the current women’s tag-team champions, are joined by the Men’s tag-team champions, The New Day. Both teams come bearing gifts and talk rivalries and opponents. Bayley and Sasha Banks interrupt the interview, jabbering on as always. Bayley breaks up the interview and offers up a match between Sasha Banks and one-half of the women’s tag-team champions, Alexa Bliss.

Sasha, not prepared to wrestle tonight, is geared up in high heels for her match. Fortunately, she had a pair of gym shoes handy. Opposing tag-team partners, Cross and Bayley joined commentary for their own sort of shit-talking bout. Bayley and Cross joined the match, causing commotion for Bliss, who was on the top rope. Sasha Banks found an opening and took it to get the win.

Cesaro and Shorty G are next up on the card. Cesaro was not happy after being eliminated from the intercontinental championship tournament battle royal. Shorty G, wrongfully eliminated after the fact by Cesaro, has to be boiling. In Vegas, Cesaro would be a heavy favorite, but due to the circumstances, I can picture several different outcomes. Shorty G with the upset! He took swift care of Cesaro for the win.

The next promotion of the night is Otis and Mandy Rose sitting poolside with the Money in the Bank briefcase and a bottle of wine. Mandy then falls into a dream and likes what she sees, then wakes up to an Otis cannonball before joining him in the pool. Folks, you cannot make this up. Well…

Following is a Kurt Angle promotion. Angle introduces the “Original Bro” former UFC fighter and NXT superstar, Matt Riddle! Riddle will make an amazing addition to the Friday Night Smackdown roster after being a very popular up-and-comer.

Finally, the main event! Sheamus will take on Daniel Bryan. The winner of this match will face AJ Styles in a Smackdown yet to come. When Bryan is wrestling, you can always expect a technical match. Now throw in the shit-talking big brawler Sheamus, then you’re in for a treat. A beefed-up battle back and forth non-stop and Sheamus is dabbling in the art of submission. The final “yes” kick misses and after a double reverse and a two count. A pin by Bryan and here comes Hardy!

To finish off the show, Jeff Hardy returns and attacks Sheamus. Many questions are left that we will figure out next Friday! Let me know what you liked best about tonight’s show @DaGerbs on Twitter.

I talk about the White Sox, Notre Dame, and pop culture. @DaGerbs on Twitter and Instagram!
