Chicago Bulls Consulting Zach LaVine in Decision-Making

The new Chicago Bulls’ front office is reportedly consulting Zach LaVine as they seek to make their head coaching decision.

The new front office of the Chicago Bulls is reportedly including Zach LaVine in the decision-making process regarding who their next head coach will be. According to Brian Geltzeiler of hoopscritic.com, Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley have been consulting the star guard in the decision-making process.

It makes sense that Karnisovas and Eversley and would want at least some input from the team’s best player on who replaces current coach and sitting duck, Jim Boylen. LaVine and Boylen clearly do not see eye-to-eye, and the new front office should want things to be as smooth as possible when the Bulls take the floor again next season. This also fits the message Eversley has communicated, wanting the organization to be players-first.

All things considered, giving the players, or at least LaVine, some input in who becomes the head coach is a good move on behalf of the new front office. That isn’t to say they should let the players decide who the coach is on their own, but after we saw Fred Hoiberg flame out fast and Jim Boylen continuing his cycle of being an awful head coach, including the players seems like a smart move.

More interestingly, this also shows how the front office views LaVine. They would not be consulting him if they did not see him as their true number one player or as a leader in the locker room.

Who eventually replaces Jim Boylen remains to be seen. We’ve reported the favorite to be Ime Udoka, but other teams are interviewing, too, and Udoka is a hot name right now. Fans are cautiously eager to see what Karnisovas and Eversley do with their first big move. Consulting LaVine is a start. Now, let’s hope they don’t blow it.
